What custom software we build
Arcesso builds software that fits one company's workflow instead of forcing the workflow to fit a product. Most projects fall into five groups, and many combine two or three of them.
Every build starts with the business problem, not the stack. We ask what a person does today, how long it takes and what breaks. Then we decide where code helps, where an existing tool is enough, and where AI adds real value. We also say where AI does not belong. A rules engine or a simple form is often the better answer.
- Internal tools that replace spreadsheets, email chains and manual re-keying
- Customer portals and dashboards with secure sign-in and role-based access
- Integrations that connect a CRM, ERP, payment system or legacy database
- SaaS products with multi-tenancy, billing and an admin console
- AI features such as document extraction, search over your files and support agents, each with evals before launch
What custom software development costs
Custom software cost depends on scope, integrations and the level of security and compliance required. Clutch reports an average custom software project of $132,480 across reviewed agencies, with the most common budget band between $10,000 and $49,999. Those are industry figures, not Arcesso prices.
Four things move the price most. The number of user roles and screens. The number and quality of integrations, since an old ERP with no API costs more than Stripe. Data migration from existing systems. And compliance needs such as audit logs, encryption and access reviews.
Arcesso gives you a fixed price after a short scoping sprint, so you know the number before the build starts. The scoping fee is credited in full if you build with us. For a deeper breakdown by project type, read our custom software development cost guide at /resources/guides/custom-software-development-cost/.
Enterprise software development for mid-market teams
Enterprise software development at Arcesso means building for companies with real compliance, integration and uptime needs, without enterprise overhead. Our sweet spot is teams of 5 to 500 people who need software that larger vendors either overprice or ignore.
Enterprise-grade features are part of the plan from the first sprint, not bolted on at the end. That includes single sign-on, role-based access, audit logs, encrypted data at rest and in transit, and deployment into your own AWS, Azure or GCP account. We write runbooks and hand over documentation so your team can operate the system without us.
We are a small senior team, not a large systems integrator. If you need hundreds of engineers on site or a vendor that already holds a specific certification, Arcesso is not the right choice, and we will tell you so on the first call.
Custom software vs off-the-shelf: when each wins
Off-the-shelf software wins when your process is standard; custom software wins when the process is your advantage. Many companies run both: a standard CRM or accounting tool, plus custom software that connects them and handles the work that makes the business different.
Before quoting a build, we check whether an existing product or a low-code tool would do the job. If one would, we say so. The table compares the two on the points buyers ask about most.
A common middle path is to buy the standard parts and build only the layer that holds your rules, data and integrations. That keeps the custom scope small and the fixed price lower.
| Factor | Custom software | Off-the-shelf software |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Higher; fixed price after scoping | Lower; subscription per user |
| Time to start | 8 to 20 weeks for a first release | Days to weeks of setup |
| Fit to your workflow | Built around how you work | You adapt to the product |
| Ownership | You own the code and IP | You rent access; the vendor owns it |
| Integrations | Built for your exact systems | Limited to the vendor's connectors |
| Best when | The process is a competitive edge | The process is common across companies |
How we add AI to custom software safely
Arcesso adds AI to custom software only where it saves time or money. Every AI feature is tested before it ships. We build on OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini and open-weight models, and choose by task, cost and data rules rather than habit.
Each AI feature gets an evaluation set first: real examples with known correct answers. We measure accuracy against that set before and after every change. A human approval step stays on until the numbers show the feature is safe to automate.
Your data stays under control. Model vendors are configured with no-training settings, personal data is masked before any model call where possible, and we document which data goes to which provider. Our AI data policy is published at /legal/ai-use/. If a feature does not need AI, we build it without AI.
What you get at handover
Arcesso hands over a working system you can run, change and sell without us. The code lives in your repository from day one, and the software runs in your cloud accounts, so there is nothing to transfer at the end.
At launch you receive the items below, plus a recorded handover call for your team. After launch, you choose between a monthly support retainer or walking away with everything documented. There is no lock-in clause and no license fee on code we wrote for you.
- Source code, infrastructure as code and deployment pipelines in your accounts
- Automated tests and, for AI features, the evaluation set and latest eval report
- A runbook covering deploys, monitoring, alerts and common fixes
- Architecture notes and an up-to-date list of third-party services and their costs
- Written IP assignment covering code, prompts, models and documentation

FAQ
Questions buyers ask us
How much does custom software development cost?
Custom software cost depends on scope, integrations and compliance needs. Clutch reports an average agency project of $132,480, with most budgets between $10,000 and $49,999. Arcesso gives you a fixed price after a one- to two-week scoping sprint, and the scoping fee is credited in full to the build. Our cost guide breaks down typical ranges by project type.
How long does it take to build custom software?
Most Arcesso custom software projects reach a first production release in 8 to 20 weeks. A focused MVP can launch in six weeks. Kickoff happens within 14 days of signing, you see a working demo every week, and the scoping sprint ends with a dated plan, so the timeline is written down before the build starts.
Who owns the code when the project ends?
You own 100% of the code, prompts, models and documentation from the first commit. Arcesso writes the IP assignment into the contract, not into an email. Work happens in your repositories and cloud accounts, so there is nothing to hand back at the end and no license fee on code we wrote for you.
Should we build custom software or buy an off-the-shelf product?
Buy off-the-shelf software when your process is standard, and build custom software when the process gives you an edge. Arcesso checks for an existing product or low-code option before quoting a build. Many clients end up with both: standard tools for common jobs and a custom layer that connects them and automates the rest.
Can you work with our existing systems and team?
Yes. Arcesso regularly connects new software to existing CRMs, ERPs, payment systems and databases, and works inside your repository and tools. Your engineers can review every pull request. When a legacy system has no API, we plan a safe integration path during scoping, and the fixed quote reflects that work.
What happens after launch?
After launch, Arcesso compares results against the baseline set during scoping and fixes anything that misses. You then choose a monthly support retainer for upgrades, monitoring and small features, or take the system fully in-house. Either way you keep the runbook, tests, architecture notes and a recorded handover call.
Will you sign an NDA before we share details?
Yes. Arcesso sends a mutual NDA within 24 hours of your request, before any detailed discussion. The first 30-minute discovery call does not need confidential detail, so you can book it right away and share specifics once the NDA is signed by both sides.
